Midway High School students Ethan Horna and Malaina Huff are advancing to compete at the 2021 HOSA (Future Health Professionals) International Leadership Conference, which will be held virtually on June 23-26.
HOSA is a national career and technical student organization whose goal is to prepare students for health science careers. Members are provided with opportunities to develop their teamwork, communication and leadership skills while strengthening their hands-on experience through competitive events.
At the virtual HOSA State Leadership Conference in March, Ethan placed third in Dental Science and Malaina placed second in Pharmacy Science. Students who place first through third in medal events at State qualify to compete at the International Leadership Conference with other students from across the country.
Competitive events like Dental and Pharmacy Science provide members with the opportunity to gain essential knowledge and skills while inspiring them to learn more about practices in specific career fields.
These competitive events consist of two rounds. Round One is a 60-minute written test with 50 multiple choice questions followed by a skills assessment in Round Two. Both Ethan and Malaina were among the top-scoring competitors on their written tests at state, which qualified them to advance to the Round-Two skills assessments.
HOSA’s competitive events are also aligned to the National Healthcare Foundation Standards, allowing students to graduate with applicable career and college-ready abilities.
Congratulations to Ethan and Malaina on their achievement and to Midway HOSA for a successful year!
