On February 26th, Remi Labeille and Sophie Kearney participated in the Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair after months of hard work on their Science Fair projects.
Sophie’s project “An Algorithmic Platform to Optimize the Prescription of Antibiotics to Minimize Antibiotic Resistance Developing in Patients or Communities​”, is advancing to the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Ar in May by being the Regional Finalist for the Senior Division with a 1st place in the Microbiology Senior Division. . She also was able to win the prestigue of the following awards: Central Texas Dental Society Award 1st place, Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award, Mu Alpha Theta Award from The National High School and Two-Year College Mathematica Honor Society, McLennan County Medical Society Award $100, Bryce C Brown Award Scholarship, BU Scholarship Award.
Remi’s project “Increasing ethanol tolerance in B. subtilis through guided evolution and metabolic engineering for efficient bioethanol production” won 1st place in the Cellular and Molecular Biology Senior Division, as well as 3rd place overall. Remi also was awarded the Central Texas Dental Society Award 3rd place.
On March 29th and 30th, these students will bring their projects to the State Science and Engineering Fair at Texas A & M with one more opportunity to showcase their projects and advance to the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in May.
