On Friday, Mar. 3, the Midway Middle School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dawn Henry, and the Symphonic Band, under the direction of Ken McLellan, attended the UIL Region 8 concert and sight reading competition.
Both bands received superior (division one) ratings in all events. Both also received the UIL Sweepstakes awards for their performances. The UIL Sweepstakes rewards excellence in performance and sight reading.
They received glowing remarks from the adjudicators for both the level of difficulty of their programs, and to the musicality of the student’s performances. They were given high praise for the level of attention to the details of the music.
Only 10% – 15% of middle school bands receive a sweepstakes award across the state annually. This is a great accomplishment for the band program at the middle school.
Congratulations to the MMS Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band for their hard work!
