2021 Central Texas Spelling Bee Champion Vihaan Sibal took 7th place as a finalist in this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee.

What does it take to become one of the top spellers in the nation? Just ask 12-year-old Vihaan Sibal.

The Incoming Midway Middle School seventh-grader tied for 7th place in the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals held on Thursday, July 8th.

12-year-old Vihaan earned his spot in the national competition alongside 209 other spellers by advancing through local and regional bees to compete in the preliminary rounds which began on June 12.

He advanced past the virtual rounds of competition in the preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals to be named one of just 11 finalists out of 200 other accomplished spellers from around the globe.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational program since its launch in 1925. The purpose of the Scripps National Spelling Bee is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.

The finals were held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort and broadcast live in primetime on ESPN2. Vihaan was eliminated in the 10th round, tying him for 7th place.

Congratulations to Vihaan on his achievement!
