MHS JOURNALISM STUDENTS WIN STATE AWARDS

Several MHS students won state level awards May 4 at the UIL Interscholastic League Press Conference in Austin. Individual Achievement Award winners were: 

In Newspaper Categories

Kendall Lowe and Annaliese Rose –  honorable mention in infographics

Kendall Lowe and Annaliese Rose –  third place in feature page design

Marshal Tompkins – second place in sports action photography

Lexi Richardson – honorable mention in sports feature photography 

Julianna Riggin – honorable mention in portrait photography 

In Yearbook Categories

Jacob Allen (2018 graduate) – third place in student life photography 

Students entered work that was created between February 2018 and February 2019 (so some graduate’s work was included) in the competition for writing, photography, and design. They competed against hundreds of their peers in 6A schools. 

Winners received medals or certificates as well as points toward another state contest in progress called The All-State Journalism Staff. Selected students will be announced in July. 

MHS yearbook and newspaper adviser Jamie Beavers also won second place in state for objective writing in a contest for journalism teachers. 

Midway High School journalism students produce a 220-page all-color yearbook each year and a monthly student newspaper called The Panther Post. Both programs have consistently placed in local, state and national contests.
