What do a Baptist, a brunette with handcuffs, & a botched engagement have in common? Jenny King is going to answer this question at the 2015 Edinburgh fringe festival in the international debut of “Reconciling.”
While growing up in Woodway, Jenny King was an active member in Waco Children’s Theatre and the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church youth group. She graduated from Midway High School where she was captain of the Goal Tenders dance team, as well as a member of Meistersingers choir, National Honor Society, and Panther Players.
She then attended Baylor University where she pursued a BFA in Theatre Performance and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Student Foundation, and the mascot team.
After Baylor, Jenny moved to DFW where she taught dance and theatre at Garner Fine Arts Academy in Grand Prairie ISD. She performed in Equity and independent theatres across the metroplex before deciding to hop the pond for grad school at East 15. Through her MFA program, she’s been able to perform on the Globe stage in London at well as work at GITIS, the oldest acting school in Moscow. When not rehearsing or in class, she spends much of her time talking about her love for Texas, Baylor, and Waco to anyone who will listen. Jenny is extremely excited (and a little nervous) for the opportunity to premiere her original play “Reconciling” at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the world’s largest art festival, established in 1947, it takes place annually in Scotland’s capital. “Reconciling” will be presented by the largest venue at fringe, “the SpaceUK.” Edinburgh Fringe is an exciting opportunity for artists to showcase their original work and opens doors to further professional opportunities. In 2014 there were over 3100 shows from 51 companies in 299 venues.
Produced by the Barrington Collective, “Reconciling” written by Jenny King, is a dark comedy exploring how three couples’ unique problems complement & crash into each other. Hearts opened and words spoken become recurring refrains through a collective unconscious where one word can have multiple meanings.
