Hulme Takes the Helm

HulmesMidway Independent School District is pleased to announce Jeff Hulme has been approved as Midway High School’s head football coach and high school boys athletic coordinator. Hulme was approved by the school board on Friday, Feb. 5, and began work the same day.

Hulme’s Mansfield HS team was a 2015 6A state semi-finalist, and he has led his program to playoffs 10 out of 12 years as head coach. Although he is the LaDainian Tomlinson’s 2016 DFW Coach of the Year and the 2007 Houston Area Coach of the Year, he says he is most proud to average 30 academic all-district players each year, citing the importance of having hard-working student-athletes and smart kids on the field.

Hulme’s style of coaching was heavily influenced by his time playing for Baylor’s Art Briles while at Georgetown High School. Hulme says, “I wouldn’t be a coach today if it weren’t for him. I was a junior during a coaching change, and he completely changed what I wanted to do in life. His attitude was to have fun with kids while still working hard. That looked like a fun thing to do!”
