MILLIONTH DOLLAR milestone
On Dec. 7, the Midway ISD Education Foundation gave away its one-millionth dollar grant donation to each librarian in Midway ISD. The Prize Posse greeted students during an assembly at Hewitt Elementary, surprising students and teachers with an incredible celebration including community members and representatives from the Midway High School drum line, cheerleaders, and Goal Tenders.
The teachers and students gathered in the cafeteria for what they thought was an assembly to give away copies of Laura Bush’s book Read All About It! They were soon surprised by red and blue streamers, silly string, cheering and the drum roll announcement of the $4,000 grant for e-books to be available to all students. This grant marks the one millionth dollar given in classroom funds by the Education Foundation. To mark the celebration of the “Million Dollar Grant,” each Hewitt Elementary student will receive a hard copy of the Laura Bush book.
“The Midway ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors are proud to reach such a significant milestone,” said Executive Director Suzi Pagel. “Our Midway community is showing its support and value placed in education through donations of over one million dollars in grant funding, plus an approximately $700,000 endowment.”
In addition to this celebration, the Prize Posse will be visiting nine more Midway campuses this week to deliver grants totaling more than $57,000 to classrooms of unsuspecting students and teachers.
