Hewitt Lion’s Club Gifts Garden Supplies

Hewitt Elementary students were surprised with “Earth Boxes” at their morning assembly last Thursday.

The “Earth Box” is an easy gardening system that does not require digging. The Hewitt Lion’s Club (HLC) purchased an “Earth Box” for each grade level to use throughout the year. The students will get to create gardens with both flowers, vegetables and herbs as they learn several lessons in the classroom.

“Several teachers are already beginning to plant seeds in their Earth Boxes,” said Christy Watley, Hewitt Elementary principal.

The Hewitt Lion’s Club is a service organization where members help the community through volunteerism, fundraising and fellowship.

“The Lions Club just loves to be able to enhance the lives of the young people in our community,” said Buddy Freeman, an HLC member and MISD Director of Maintenance & Transportation.
