Midway senior, Brittany Brewer, was awarded First Place in the Martha Marcks Mack Junior Vocal Award by the National Federation of Music Clubs.  This national award is given each year to a deserving and talented singer in high school grades 10, 11, 12 for the purpose of further musical study. This spring Brittany also placed third nationally in the High School Division of the highly competitive 2017 Hal Leonard Vocal Competition.  Judged entirely by YouTube auditions, this classical voice competition is the only one in all of North America aimed at young singers, ages 23 and under, with online entries, which allows more young singers the opportunity to apply. Winners receive monetary gifts and gift certificates for music from Hal Leonard Music Publishers.

As a member of the Midway Choral Department’s Music Enrichment Program, Brittany has been studying voice under Julianne Best for six years.   Last year, she was a Texas All-State Choir member, earning first place in the Area Competition in the Soprano I section.  As a soloist, she has been stacking up the solo vocal honors.  In April, she received Honorable Mention in the Denton Bach Competition for Young Musicians, and in March she was named the Third Place winner in the Dallas Fort Worth National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition.  Last fall, she was a finalist in the prestigious Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition.  In addition, Brittany’s summer of 2016 included competing as a finalist in the national level of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition in Chicago and participating for a second year in the Tanglewood Institute in Lenox, MA.  Brittany will be attending Northwestern University as a dual major in Vocal Performance and German, as a National Merit Finalist.
