Midway High School Opens Writing Lab for Students

Picture 6 from MHS Writing LabOn Monday, November 9, 2015, the Midway High School Writing Lab opened for all students.  Because writing is a necessary skill for all students and is required in most content areas, the campus understands the importance of having a resource like this available.

The lab is run by English teachers, as well as National Honor Society students, who were recommended by their AP teachers as outstanding in the area of writing.  These NHS students have the opportunity to give back to their peers by assisting them with writing help, such as talking through a writing prompt with students, helping students brainstorm in order to develop ideas for an assignment, and revising and editing their writing.

The emphasis on writing has continued to increase in Midway ISD, and the state of Texas requires students to pass the English I and English II EOC tests in order to graduate.  We continue to strive to improve writing and communication skills so that students are equipped for college and careers.  The Midway High School Writing Lab offers an additional layer of support for students so that they may receive help outside of their school hours.Picture 2 from MHS Writing Lab

Tremendous thanks goes to the English department, the NHS sponsors, and the NHS student volunteers. Coordinating the opening of the new lab took many people.  We look forward to serving our students in order to support whatever writing needs they have!

The lab is currently open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 7:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m.  The lab will open in the afternoons during the spring semester if needed.
