Annual Spooktacular Swim Meet Results!

On Saturday, the Midway swim team hosted the annual Spooktacular swim meet at the Waco Family YMCA.  This year was the largest meet that they have hosted in quite some time.  There were 10 schools there including all seven from the district and nearly 250 swimmers.  The girls’ team finished 2nd overall behind Belton high school and the boys’ team finished 1st overall beating 2ndplace Belton by 82 points.  The boys’ team has not lost this meet in the past 8 years!

There were lots of fast races  and great performances by the Midway swimmers, most notably by junior Neil Wachtler.  Neil broke two pool and team records at the meet.  He broke his own record in the 100 backstroke with a new time of 53.82 and he broke a 6-year-old pool record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.54. Midway’s varsity swim coach, Dan Marlin, was extremely proud of his swimmers.  “Neil anchored one of the most exciting 400 freestyle relay races I have seen by turning a 4 second deficit into a 2 second victory to help win the race for Midway,” Marlin said.  The other members of that relay were seniors Sam Bellert, Adam Nelson and Quan Pham.  “Many thanks to all the faculty who came to the meet. The swimmers and coaches appreciate all of your support,” Marlin said.
