Midway Athletic Hall of Fame Inducts 2014 Honorees

volleyball team 2014 HOF winnersCongratulations to the 2007 Varsity Volleyball team on being inducted Midway Athletic Hall of Fame! Honorees will be recognized prior to kickoff at this week’s Homecoming football game.

The team defeated Friendswood to win the State Championship. The seniors had some unfinished business to take care of that year. The team made it to the final game in the State Tournament the year before but lost. They came back in 2007 to win the championship.

During the season, they won three invitational tournament championships. The team had major victories over Waxahachie, Round Rock Westwood, Georgetown and Round Rock McNeil. During the State Tournament, they eliminated Canyon Randall in the first round. They also had playoff wins over North Dallas, Midlothian, Highland Park and McKinney Boyd. They started and ended the season ranked number one and had only one season loss. Coaches Janet Angell, Ryan Porter and Jana Thomas led the team to the state victory.

Coach Angell said that the girls were unselfish and everything was about the team that year.

Several of the members of the 2007 Volleyball team have moved on to college athletics. Makenzie Robertson went on to play basketball at Baylor University. Jordan Rice also went on to play volleyball for Baylor. Ale’tra Ware went on to play volleyball at St. Edwards. Lauren Ray continued her volleyball career at Hill Jr. College and then at Henderson College in Arkansas.

Members of the 2007 State Championship Team were Elise Ingram, Mandy Tamez, Alyssa Lewis, Makenzie Robertson, Megan Leinfelder, Lisa Chop, Amanda Woolley, Lauren Ray, Kelsey O’Neill, Laura Simon, Megan Mader, Ale’tra Ware, Sybil Westrup, Sarah Groman, Tammy Mader, and Jordan Rice. Managers were Jared Stepp, Robby Hartland, and Lia Caserta. Coaches were Janet Angell, Ryan Porter, and Jana Thomas.
