Midway alumni qualify for Olympic trials

Emily and Will brought home state gold in 2010 as teammates on the Midway High School Swim Team.

Former Midway teammates Will Chandler (class of 2010) and Emily Neubert (class of 2011 valedictorian) both qualified for the U.S. Swimming & Diving Olympic Trials to be held in late June in Omaha, Neb.

Chandler currently dives for the University of Texas, and competed at the USA Diving Winter Nationals. He was 12th in the platform to qualify for the trials as an individual, plus he and Matthew Cooper qualified with a fifth place finish in the synchronized men’s platform diving event.  Their hardest dive was a forward 4 1/2 somersault tuck with a degree of difficulty at 3.70.

Neubert, the reigning 4A state champion in 50-yd free and 100-yd fly, is now a freshman at Texas A&M. Neubert swam a 1:01.90 in the 100-m butterfly, qualifying for the trials at the Texas Grand Prix swim meet.
